anyone know how much it would cost to cut and program an extra key... i was thinking about purchasing this key from Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-KEY-325...sQ5fAccessories let me know what you guys think thanks a bunch |
it says there are no electronics in side and plus the key isnt even cut to work with your ignition
i have no idea if you can even do that without the key being laser cut to work id call the dealer honestly for this item |
+1 to what PTL said, the dealer has to program the key to work with your car and that requires electronics inside. So even if you got that key and had it cut it wouldn't work since there's no transponder inside telling the car it's okay to work with that key.

i think this is one of those few non negotiables with the dealer that you just kinda have to pay i know my fathers porsche keys are around $500 a piece, same with my mothers Volvo S80 turbo keys |
I got a similar key to this from ebay, cost ?25 and had the circuit inside it and a blank. I got the blank cut at a cost of ?15 and I need to get it programmed which will cost another ?25.
You can program the key to the car using the key but this way it will not start the car, so a an emergency key if you lock your main key in the car its fine. When you get it cut make sure you can try the key in the ignition before leaving. |
If you're in New York I know one guy in Brooklyn can make aftermarket key for $150
