E60 iPod (iPhone) connectivity problem

Hello all,
A couple of months ago purchased a E60 525i (UK) first reg March 2004. Currently working on my very first mod installing the glove box iPod connection kit to use with my iPhone.
Installation was very easy however am not stuck with an issue where the iPhone is recognising the "accessory" [car] however on the iDrive under "Entertainment" I have "FM" and "AM" however "CD" is greyed out. I tried with a colleagues iPod and had the same result.
My current thinking is that I need some form of Firmware upgrade from the dealer for the car but wanted to see if anyone on here had any ideas or further info.
