Default Dual single exhuast on E60 and exhaust options?

Has anyone performed a dual single exhaust mod? I like the dual single exhaust look like the E90's and new F-series.

Also, if I do keep one sided exhaust, my catback options are limited to none since I'm an XI. I like RPI but they haven't done a customization for an XI. So I'm considering axle back now. I love the sound of Magnaflow (deep throaty, burbling sound with small gains) and hear good things about Billy Boat. To put things in perspective, I'm looking for slightly louder than stock but not empty sounding. Any suggestions?

Thanks all

we dont recommend doing a quad/dual setup but it can be done. cheapest way (and also from what you are looking for, a dual single exhaust look) would be to have it done as a custom job at a muffler shop. the only thing would be to have your bumper cut out or to find a diffuser/have a diffuser made that will accommodate that type of exhaust outlet.

It's not that hard to do. I'm doing a 3" dual exhaust soon myself. Any muffler shoo can build one.

I finally have all the stuff to complete this just waiting for a little free time. I see you have n54 in your name so assuming you have a 535. Have you researched the effects of the pipe size? My current setup is a Dinan axel back and the diameter is 4". It's been recommended to use 2.5 after the cat. I guess this relates to something in the area of 5" total exhaust evacuation compared to the 4". Sad to say but I really have no personal knowledge in this. I also hear that with turbo cars it's not a problem as in naturally aspirated cars. I've also read where some of these guys felt a significant loss in power and some say it seems to come back later... All of this made me rather nervous. So plan is to use the magnaflow muffler just under the rear seat area the 2.5" dual pipe back to either side coming into a turbo resonator and exiting with dual chrome tips. I removed the battery box cover and will fabricate a small heat deflector just for a little peace of mind. I should start this in three weeks and will take lots of photos to post.

I have a Remus muffler on my 530xi and it sounds great, not too loud either. Install is so simple i did it myself.

Any turbo car will benefit from a 3" exhaust. On my dragcar (nothing fancy) it has a 3". It did have a 2.5" dp back, but when I started to hit 20+psi that exhaust became very restrictive. Adding a 3" exhaust added a lot of power. A stock n54 wouldn't see as much of a difference in a 3" exhaust as say a modded on. Turbo engines like to breathe. I have a 08 535xi, and the 3" exhaust I am sure will wake it up a bit but I'm building it myself as it is a lot cheaper then buying a system.

Although not 535 specific, you may want to read through this thread West and I put together:

Don't mean to thread jack, but are there any SMOG issues when converting to duals or quads. particularly if you get Remus or singles if getting RPI?
