Door trim, aluminium and wood!!!

Hi, was looking at a few DIY's on door trim removal, i noticed people saying the wood and metal door pieces are slightly different sizes?? My car came factory with wood trim and i want to replace it with a metal one, would i have any problems doing this? Would there be a slight gap? Thanks.
