I have been reading the topic on remaping and I must say the results sound most impressive. The thing that is troubeling me is why don't BM extract these kind of figures out of the motors? I am sure they have experts that can do it just the same as the specialists. One other thing I have been wondering about is that A.C. Schnitzer have remap for the 530d, but not for 530d or 535d with particle filter. Is this a problem that is unique to them or is it a problem with other specialists but they just ignore it?
Any coments anyone

reliability, warranty, etc
manufacturers play it safe.
manufacturers play it safe.
They have to take into account other things like the fact there cars are sold in temperatures ranging from -50c up to +50c, this plays a big part in what you can get away with.
Also cars are aimed at a certain segment of the market, with different insurance bands and tax bands based on emmissions etc.
They do actually end up tuning them anyway, 320d went from 136bhp to 150bhp to 168bhp, and I bet we see it around 190bhp by end of next year.
Same with the 3.0d engine, 184bhp, 204bhp, 218bhp etc. etc.
All about what is needed in the market place at any given time, if Audi and Merc are still only reaching 140bhp on their 2 litre Diesel why do BMW have to rush and push the 168bhp they are offering?

DMS say no problems with the particle filter, and no-one with a DMS job has reported ANY sort of problem to my knowledge

My turbo has been replaced under warranty. Was the DMS remap to blame? I don't think so, but you can't tell.
Another issue why the manufacturers don't max the performance. The need to have differences in power between the models. Otherwise no-one would buy the more expensive model if the power gain was minimal over the cheaper one. As well as the "life" of a model. As already mentioned, the tweaking that happens over it's lifetime. The 530d is now 231BHP. Although there are mechanical differences in the 218 and 231 engine, there is probably some differences in mapping too.
