Indeed - certainly wasn't the response I was expecting. I mean, I could buy a 550/M5 with more bhp and probably pay not much more than I'm paying now. But oooooh, remap and add 50bhp, and I'm going to CRASH AND DIE !

That's nasty....

My Evo has tons of mod's including a remapped ECU and is producing around 400HP, the insurance company are aware of all the mods and the insurance is still cheaper than my 535d (probably because of the difference in value more than anything - oh and the wife isn't insured on the Evo ). So it must be possible to get the insurance without being penalised too heavily, just a case of finding a mod friendly policy.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks - I will speak to both of those insurers I think I'm being ripped off by the current "big name" insurers anyway. It cost me ?180 to switch from a 530d to a 535d ... sure, it's worth ?20k more, but still !

Russ: How much POWER do you get? I'm also interested in how much your X5 will get since it's the same engine that I have. With my last 218hp 530d I got 265hp and 560nm from a plug-in box, nice... But; if I'm doing int again I will choose a remap, no plugin box, since my last 530d started to whistle a lot after 30000kms. Don't want that to happend again.

Is anybody able to recommend any DMS friendly insurance companies in the UK...?
Direct Line charged me an extra 90-quid (on a 1,000 p.a. policy) without any bother at all. Just needed to know the percentage increase in power.

All sorted - spoke to one of the insurance companies listed on superchips (Andrew Flux). Not only will they insure me no problem, but the policy is ?200 _CHEAPER_ than my current policy before modifications!!! So, called DMS, and the remap is back on for Tuesday for both cars. WOOHOO!!!
