One question, did your car come equipped with sports suspension from the factory? How much stiffer are the Dinan springs?

Yes had the m sport suspension. Its slightly stiffer with dinan springs.
Not jarring at all. It actually feels better than stock.

Oh crap! You are just like me! I modded the heck out of mine with EVERYTHING Dinan and then sold it 1500 miles later for the M5-lol! No regrets though! Car looks AWESOME! Should have no problem selling it. What are you getting?

-Mike

edit...just read the whole post and saw you are getting the E39 M5. GREAT car! I went E60. Love it! You are right. NOTHING like driving an M car. Chris (umichchris) encouraged me to make the move and not look back and he was right. You can do EVERYTHING to the 550i and it is never going to be an M5. The high revs, the overall responsiveness of the car-a completely different BEAST! I know you love the E39 and I think they are SWEET cars but if you have not driven an E60 you really need to take an hour or so and do it. Much like the 550 to M5 comparison, there is a world of difference in the E39 and 60 in terms of power and comfort features. The E60 walks all over the E39. That may not be important to you and that's cool. But after spending the money like I did (and you did) and losing so much $ in doing so by selling so quickly, I wish I would have done more looking before jumping. I would have bough the F10 (more likely the M6). In fact, I almost did a few weeks ago. It is in my budget but the thought of tossing away so many thousands of dollars AGAIN after only a few thousand miles...well that didn't appeal to me. Don;t get me wrong my E60 totally rocks. I have it all tricked out with Vorsteiner, RPI, Eurocharged and HRE and it is bad to the bone but I would still have been smart to weigh options more thoroughly. Just a thought. :-)

And I must say, this is the way the sport suspension should come from BMW.
Truly an amazing upgrade for all of you thinking of suspension mod.
Body roll is greatly improved, as well as turn in.
Suspension travel is way better than stock.
Also have Dinan exhaust, strut brace, and monoball kit.
A thrill to drive!!!

After all these great Dinan upgrades, Im sad to say that I've decided to put her up for sale.
Anyone interested let me know. I can provide additional pics.
Certified pre owned warranty til October 2013. And extended maintenance.

Second that. The SUSPENSION is actually the BEST Dinan mod for these cars. It is so slick on straights and bites so nicely in turns. Could not handle and ride better.

Thank you ColdList!
I love all the Dinan upgrades I've had done, and your right the SUSPENSION is awesome.
But I recently test drove an 03 E39 M5 and fell in love. The feel of driving the M was GREAT! I feel the E39 is more mechanically driven than the E60. It just feels like a driver car (especially the M5). Your right the E60 M5 will dance around the E39 M5 in performance, but think the V10 is an overkill for the E60.
I much prefer the E39 torque band for everyday driving.
And besides I think the E39 M5 is timeless!!!

They are DEFINITELY cool cars and you are right about them being timeless. They will ALWAYS be cool. Have fun with it. I got a feeling that you will do exactly what I did and end up modding the crap out of it right away even though you are saying "I won;t waste money again right away"-lol. That lasted me about 3 days. Before my tags arrived I had a full Vorsteiner kit, my HREs, tint, custom mad CF side skirts, RPI GTS exhaust, ACS Roof Spoiler, CF side vents, Custom mesh insert in the Vorsteiner CF rear diffuser, painted calipers, blacked out grille, Bel StiR and Laser interceptors installed, and the final piece-the CF Vorsteiner license plate frame (not pictured)...haha! It just HAPPENS! Can;t fight it! Then two weeks ago I almost bought a new M6...ugh! Decided to keep her for a little while longer. Taking her in for an intense detail by the guy at the Ferrari shop then putting a full clear bra over the front end and roof. Here she is...C'mon now.."overkill"? Nah...That high revving V10 is the reason I'm keeping her. With the RPI GTS she sounds like an F1 car at WOT.

Dinan seems to claim in their description of the suspension that the Koni adjustables they sell with the kit have custom valving. It seems a bit odd since they are adjustable anyway. Can anyone confirm this?

That I don't know but I do now they are definitely adjustable. Dinan makes a lot of claims about "custom" stuff and they may be correct, however, I am not sure if they are actual improvements. The Dinan suspension is incredible though (Stage 2). If it had adequtely lowered the front end on an M5 I would have gone that route instead of coilovers for sure. Instead went with CKS coils and SWIFT springs. Handles like a track car but rides like one. SWIFT springs make it better but Dinan is literally a thousand times better ride no question.
