So after seeing the mods of some of the other members I figured I would jump in as well and make some upgrades. While I would like to go with the less expensive exterior mods, such as rims, kits, etc., I was wondering what type of performance numbers would I be getting if I saved the extra dough for Dinan's Performance Engine Software Upgrades?

http://www.dinancars.com/store/Engin...p-1-c-768.html

The two stages as well as the free flow exhaust are there and I really like the sounds of both of them. I know the stats, such as increase in horsepower and torque as they are provided on the site itself. But what about the actual performance? Does anyone actually have the upgrades and can tell me acceleration times and stuff like that? Or for those that don't have them, what have you heard?

I realize Dinan is pricey, but 1. many people seem to think their products are worth it and 2. the warranty provided after the work is done is also a little comforting. I just want to make sure that the 2 grand I spend on any of those parts is actually worth it.

I havea 535xi, btw.
What are you try to get accomplished with the mods? Then we can help you decide better.

I have the Dinan software done on my 545 and I would also suggest getting the Sprint Booster.
Why??

It's another software upgrade that will add to the RESPONCE of your Engine Software.
I can't stess enough how much the SB takes out the lag out of my cars accelaration. Even with my Dinan software done.
And it's not an expensive mod to get done.

I hope my opinion here makes sence.
I had both a 545 and 535 and did not have "lag" in either of them.

I just want something a bit faster, which is why I've been asking for approx. numbers for those that have done it. 0-60 times, etc. Because so far I've been saying "stage 2" but maybe I would be better off with a stage 1. Cheaper, more money for mods, and something that isn't too fast either. But I think I need the numbers of people that have already done the modding to know.

The acceleration numbers that I have seen from a stock 550 was 4.8-5.3 secs from major car magazines. The 535 Dinan is 260 lbs lighter, has higher (numerically) 3.64:1 vs. 3.38:1 final drive gearing, and has more torque and a flatter torque curve. I would think the Dinan 535i range is a tenth or two tenth seconds quicker to 60 and has about 30 MPH more top speed.

You might not think you had or have throttle lag in your cars but it's there. It's built into the drive-by-wire throttle. You should just borrow one from someone in your area and try it and you'll know what we're talking about. I have it on my M5 and I also have RDSport software. It's true the SB does not provide any power increase whatsoever but the throttle response is almost instantaneous with it and the shifting seems a lot more responsive as well.

I was a skeptic for a long time so I never got it when I had my 545 with the full compliment of Dinan performance products. I then borrowed Vegastrashed's unit and put it on my M5 and I had to get one.

Anyway, sorry if I sound like I'm trying to push this mod on you guys. Just giving you my personal opinions. There are actually a few folks who tried it and didn't care much for it so it may boil down to personal driving styles.

I know the SB isn't so much performance as it is just tweaking some minor settings to allow more response, but like you said, when it's used in conjunction with any other type of major mod it just amplifies its presence.

In relation to the 550i stock, correct? So it's safe to assume something like 5s flat, conditions permitting? Cool, and this is the Stage 2 right? I think Stage 1 would be ok too, if money became an issue, but I doubt it.
The Dinan hp and torque numbers are crank hp and torque so 384 crank hp translates into something like 360 rear wheel HP and 421 ft lbs translates into about 390 rear wheel torque. The 550's 360 hp and 360 ft lbs are rear wheel numbers, so the Stage One software maybe more like 330 rwhp and 350 ft lbs.

Ah, no, I was referring to you saying that it would be a tenth or two-tenths of a second faster in your previous post. Was that in relation to the 535xi's standard0-60 or in relation to the 550i used as your example?

I was comparing the 535 with the 550. If you look at the 3 Series forum they have documented results. The 335 coupe is 200 lbs lighter and the 335 Sedan is 100 lbs lighter than the 535.
