I was wondering...
Is there anything wrong with having 2 different tire brands on the same car....i.e, nitto's in the front and bridgestones in the back?
I was thinking about maybe doing that, but wanted to get some reaction and feedback before i try something like that...
ps. I wasnt gonna pick those brands mentioned above...thats an example!!

I personally wouldn't worry about mixing the tyres (as long as you keep the same make, size, tread pattern etc. on the same axle) and are using a quality brand all round which match the capability of your car.
If you think about it, some people have wider tyres on the back compared to the front which will give different levels of grip anyway, so why worry if they have a different brand name on the outside wall of the tyre.
Others will think different, but that's my ten penneth on the matter.

My Ride: Currently: (3/1/06) 2002 530i black on black prem, sport, cold, xenon.
Others here have done it so should work as long as difference is front vs. rear and not side to side!

I currently have conti sport contact 2's on the back of my car and pirelli p-zero neros on the front.
I want to change the front ones to match, but as they are only 50% worn I can't bring myself to pay

All of these tires, even close in specs, will have different characteristics that will affect the handling. If you never use the handling capability of the car, then it would not matter, but I am sure you do. Otherwise, why else buy a great handling car.
True you need to keep the diameters consistant, and the car does already have a staggered tire setup, but the suspension geometry was setup for the stagger.
I think the basketball response was a good analogy.
