My Ride: 2008 525d MSport 19" 172s Leather - Heated No-Nav, M-ASK, MP3 Playback, BMW Ipod Interface, CD-Prep

Here is some important info for people installing a Dension or BMW Ipod Interface.

If your car has the CDC Preparation option SA694 then according to the BMW Parts catalogue you do NOT need the Part 61.13.6.931.507 Diagnosis Inteface MOST, but in fact you DO need this part.

Basically the Fibre Optic loop comes from the M-ASK unit to the back of the glovebox, and this is where you open the connector to get the IN/OUT sides of the bus for installing the Dension/Ipod Interface. However, the OUT side of the bus then proceeds to a MOST Diagnotics port located in the glovebox UNDER where the torch would be plugged in to charge (don't worry - I'll add pictures). In cars without the CD Changer fitted there is a blanking connector which effectively terminates the fibre bus loop. This is where part 61.13.6.931.507 comes in - it replaces the blanking connector and allows the fibre bus to complete its loop back to the M-ASK.

I didn't have access to the above part, so instead I dismantled the connector that was already there, and re-used the connector I removed to add the Ipod Interface. I will put this all back once I get the connector from BMW.

The connector is behind a small panel located behind and under where the torch and glovebox door piston are located. Hopefully the pictures will give you a better idea where this port is located. Unfortunately most of the pictures were taken after I had bypassed the connector and completed the loop, but hopefully it should help.

I should say thanks to StonedAgain who pointed me in the right direction with this part and made me go searching for where it fitted - dealer was absolutely useless!!

Shows the blanking connector removed and disconnected.

In the photo in that linked thread, the circled area is the torch charger. The MOST ring diagnostic access panel is directly below that, but on the horizontal plane rather than the vertical. When you open the panel the MOST ring is connected and will be pulled out of the hole along with the cover.

If you do not already have the CD Changer fitted, then this connection block is likely to be a blanking connector meaning that you will need the part mentioned above.
