Hi all,
I know you'll kill me, but the swap from OEM BMW Ipod integration kit to Dension Gateway 500 was sooo easy and everything works great!
I just unplugged the ipod fiberoptics and took apart the harness (the ipod has two fiberoptics cables. going in, and coming out signal), and a power and ground cable in the harness.
I tapped the power for the dension into the power and ground. Clicked the harness for the fiber optic and I was good to go.
So if anyone that has the OEM BMW Ipod kit and is afraid the dension will not work, It does.
BTW, I have a 2004 530i, (09/03 production date) No Navi, and No CDC. my car is already installed with the ipod software so that is why it works as a quick swap.
Also the other thing that confused me as far as configuring was the DIP switches. I didnt have it right for the first hour. I kept trying and trying and finally figured it out. Also I had to run up back and forth to my apartment to get some tools, then get the software upgrade.
It also charges the Iphone 3g too. The USB feature is awesome too. You also have a feature where you can control the ipod songs by using the Ipod's interface itself. That's a selection in the source field.
also Dension enables you to search through letters for songs and divides up every playlist / song great.
I will take more pics tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out how to mount my USB port and the AUX port.
Nite!!

Nice, I plan on doing this aswell, do you know where I can get this and who can program it/ install it for me, I don't have the ipod/NAV or cd changer, so I guess I don't have the required fiber optics cables that you mentioned, so what will I need to get this job done? thanks man

Nice work, Mike. I'm interested to find out more as I have the exact same setup like you (pre-dension). How much is the total cost? Can you watch video? Can you see song title in different language? Can't wait to see the pics. Hurry!

Since now you've own the BMW OEM iPod kit and the Dension, how about a thorough review and comparison of both products?
I still haven't bought the BMW one because of all the limitations people have talked about on bimmerfest. Hoping the rumors are true that the USB iPod retrofit will be out soon.
