My cupholders are not broken....

But they don't work. No matter what I put in them, the drinks tip over and I end up driving with one hand on the drink and one on the wheel.

Its funny... the only time I put my SMG in auto mode, is when I've got a cup in the holder.... so I can hold the cup with one hand.

Freakin' retarded.

The dealer replaced my cup holder, as it did not open properly. After the replacement, I experienced exactly the same problems you guys are describing. I took it back to the dealer who then checked and found an update from BMW that directed them on how to adjust the retracting mechanism (they must have just cut/buffed a plastic piece). The problem has been corrected?.

robq,

I just had my 530 in for service, and complained about the cupholders ejecting cups and cans, and that I heard there was a fix. He told me there was no official BMW fix out there. Do you know the TSB #, or have a link to it? That way, I can do half of the SA's work for him, and at least show him what needs to be done, lol!

Thanks for any other info you have

Sorry - do not know the specifics of teh TSB. I had my car in about 2 months ago for other things. When I was do the final qc test drive, I spoke the to shop forman about the issue. He said BMWNA just sent a video around showing how to modify the cup holder so it works better.

On a realted note, I recently bought the ultimate cupholder someone else posted about. It works great. For the E60 you need the UCII ultimate cupholder II.

Sounds like the E60 cup holders aren't much better than the E39's. I have replaced my cupholders at least a half dozen times (I've lost count). The driver side is broken now and scheduled for repair Monday. Obviously, BMW does not give much thought to them.
