The 550i will be ordered very soon and I need some help with two cosmetic decisions.

1) M5 Wing....Even though the car is not an M5, does it make a "wannabe" M5?

2) Highgloss Shadowline Trim - Similar to what is on the M5 Exterior Door Pillars. My old E39 540i (AMAZING CAR) had this standard right from the factory. Do you feel that this is necessary to replace the crap flat black with the highgloss. The car will be White with Gray Leather.

I think the M5 lip spoiler does a nice job of setting the rear ends profile. its a small lip and looks more understated than any other.
don't debadge and I think its cool.

I think the whole shadowline trim thing is very over rated. It seems to mostly impress those with it.

I think it really does not matter that much.

You are aware of the facelift coming up this spring, aren't you?

If you like the M5 wing it doesn't make you car into a wannabe,
choose as you like but don't get the "M" sign on your trunk.

I entirely agree with ricracing and bargamon on the debadging. I think it becomes a wannabe if you debadge or -worse - put an ///M badge; if the lip is offered as an option, then it's available on a 550i. Period.

Personally, I would not waste time or money with any "cosmetic" options, especially on the outside of the car. I'm surprised the 550i does not come with shadowline gloss as standard in the US - it does in the UK.

Doesn't EU MY start in September? Or has BMW capitulated to the Non-EU marketing cycle?

Yes, I work for a dealership and I am very well aware of the facelift. However, I dont know know if BMW will keep the same employee discount on the 07 550i as the 08 550i. Also, the rates and residuals may go the other way. That is the main consern that I have.

I have the M5 lip spoiler, and the M-tech aero kit. It looks great. I can't imagine owning my car without them. It makes the car, IMO.


I got regular shadowline trim with my car, because it has Sport Package. I didn't know about the high gloss when I ordered my car, but I have seen pics of it and honestly don't think it looks much better. Flat black is fine by me. ANYTHING is better than that awful chrome. I hate chrome with a passion. :thumbsdown:

i have had sports m body on both my recent cars and the latest has black shadow gloss black trim around windows and mirror surrounds,it looks more finished on carbon black coloured car imo. i like the effect,but its overpriced, in uk ,they the-police are hot on tint on windows so i think the tint effect i have makes the car look odd (back windows darker than front)(sun protection option). its a shame as that would make the car really stand out.
