In the WDS there are some numbers below plugs and connectors. These numbers often are the same as those stamped on the actual part itself. But how do you corelate that number to the BMW part number or is there a way in the WDS that you can see the equivalent BMW part number.

e.g. What will a 3 pin socket with the numbers 8377064 05 and 1355 620-1, Tyco BMW be in terms of a BMW ETK part number. I know I can buy this elsewhere from people who stock Tyco parts but catalog shopping for these parts is a night mare because you don't know which part to order. So ordering from BMW is more straightforward although its about 3 times more expensive.

as said in your other thread on this, you will not get hold of TYCO manufactured BMW plugs from a Tyco distributor

I understand this but what I'm after is the link between what is shown on the BMW Wiring diagram System (WDS) and the actual BMW part.

there isn't a link. I'm not sure why BMW uses the manufacturer part number in the WDS. Also the BMW part numbers for all connectors are not referenced externally by the connector manufacturer.

For example, BMW buys a connector from Amphenol. Then Amphenol will give part number 1234 to this connector for BMW and 9875 for all other retail customers. Thats if Amphenol makes that particular connector available in the market.

I think I figured this one out. Basically its as simple as entering the number found in the WDS in the ETK and seeing what part it comes with.

e.g. In case you wanted to install your very own after market amplifier and needed the part number for the 20 pin OEM plug that connects to the OEM Amp. You search for the connector in the WDS. In my example its X18773 and if you look up the diagram for that connector in the WDS you will get a number next to a symbol of a spanner, in this case its 1383502.9.

Now go to the ETK and enter the first 7 numbers 1383502 into the Part Use -> By Parts. Then enter the 7 numbers 1383502 into the Code Number field. The search results should have your part number for you. In this case you get 61 13 1 383 502 SOCKET HOUSING. You may sometimes have to look if the parts have been Superceeded to get the latest part number.

But now it finally makes sense.

UPDATE : I just tried to do the same thing using the 7 numbers found on the BMW parts as well and entering it into the ETK. It seems to work too.
