Hi All

Kigerka and I are now pleased to say that my mod for people with SMG transmission who want to replace the push/pull levers with original E60 M5 -/+ levers with working backlit LEDs is now done and fully tested and WORKS!

Thanks to Kigerka's generosity in letting me get my grubby hands on his prized car, we were able to fit a prototype wiring loom and levers to his SMG wheel 8 days ago in Frankfurt. We spent a few hours going through several times of connecting up and disconnecting due to a couple of teething problems with wiring diagrams pulled off from the BMW WDS. In the end, we managed to ascertain which schematic was the 'most correct' - even though it had a totally different colour code for the wires in the steering wheel!!!

I went over to Kigerka's place in Orenhofen yesterday (2nd visit) to finalise the mod and after a great lunch with his fantastic family, this is the result:

Finished steering wheel mod with key at Term 15 (2nd pos):

The backlit LEDs are linked into the steering wheel backlighting, so if you adjust the brightness of the dashboard lighting, the LEDs will follow suit.

The next mod for Kigerka's car will be the retrofitting of the lighted M5 gear knob which should be available in the beginning of May - the parts are on backorder.

That's all for now, folks... I hope to start producing this particular conversion wiring loom in May.

All the Best

Hobi

PS... CRRobert: I'll PM you later this week about your car!

Hobi, wow that is an awesome mod! Man that is sweet! Do you know if this is possible on an E60 with a steptronic transmission? Or is it only possible with SMG?

Hi Vinman

I've done this to my car which has Step - it is possibly the first Step E60 ever to have the real M5 wheel and working shift levers. Have a look at my site - link below!

Batteries going out on my notebook...gotta sign off now. PM me or email if you want more info.

All the Best

Germany's going to think there is a problem with M5's SMG switches due to the number that are going to be ordered
