My Ride: 08 535i Blk on Blk, Sport package, Premium package, 166 w/ Michelin PS2's
Default

Proud new owner of 08 535i w/ sport suspension and 124's wanting to upgrade to 166's with Michelin PS2's.

The confusion comes from all the posts i've read (yes I did a search) about M5 tire sizes 255's front and 285's rear rubing but i've read some have 166 with spacers.

So to get it clear if I get 166's with 255's and 285's with no spacers I will rub on the rear fenderwell.

If above is true, then wouldn't 275's in the rear with a 10mm spacer rub also???

Also could someone that has the rub tell me when it happens? ie bumps, hard acceleration, hard braking, etc.

Thanks

yes, the 255s and 285s will rub on non-M5. As for the spacers and numbers, ill let THE DOC handle that, its his specialty

Is it turbocharged the 535i? Or did you mean 535d?

. It's a matter of tire profile.

P285/30R19 Vs P285/35R19

The 30 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 30% of its section width(285). The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 285mm and that its section height is 30% of 285mm.

Example: 285/35R19 (M5 wheel)
285mm x .30=99.75mm
99.75mm x 2=199.5mm
199.5mm + 482.6mm(19")= 682.1mm or 26.85"

Example: 285/30R19 (Non-M5 wheel)
285mm x .30=85.5mm
85.5mm x 2=171mm
171mm + 482.6mm(19")= 653.6mm or 25.7" a difference of 1.15 Inches. Between 275/30 and 285/30 Non-M5 wheels, there's only a 0.64" difference.

1.15 inches may not rub on stock rear suspension but most here has dropped their whips. Hope this helps. G/L

And for the front: M5 Vs Non-M5

Example: 255/40R19 (M5 wheel)
255mm x .40=102mm
102mm x 2=204mm
204mm + 482.6mm(19")= 686.6mm or 27.03"

Example: 245/35R19 (Non-M5 wheel)
245mm x .35=85.75mm
85.75mm x 2=171.5mm
171.5mm + 482.6mm(19")= 654.1mm or 25.75", a difference of 1.27 Inches.

to the forum, member rizbel has provdied some great info already. nothing to add there except possibly getting 166 wheels with the M6 offsets,no spacers will be needed with that offset. The M6 rear offset is ET 17, M5 rear offset being ET 28. The 11 mm difference will give you a wider stance, most members with M5 offsets add spacers later to get the wider stance the M6 offset will give you stock. GL with your purchase decision...

Giving the Doc a run for his money eh??

I totally missed the height difference between the 40 and 35 series. That was the key and thank you very very much.

So I think the best for what I want will be the 166 w/ m6 offset with 255/35/19(26") front and 285/30/19(25.8") rear and I should be rub free. Correct?

Now where is Garry's email and do we have a hook up at Tirerack??

You guys rock!!!!!

Looking back I see my numbers vary from Rizbels. I think because he did the math and I just used the specs from Tirerack. Just wanted to make sure I was choosing a size that is available.
