My Ride: 2008 535xi Platinum Gray, Black Dakota Leather, Sport Pkg
I'm considering a set of staggered Avant Garde M310 for my 535xi, but am being told by one of our vendors that they won't clear the calipers. Size/Offset at 18x8 ET35 (front), 18x9 ET35 (rear). Given that the stock sport wheels are the same size but with way more offset (ET43 front, ET55 rear), how can wheels with so much less offset not clear? I'm baffled, but am certainly no expert. Any thoughts?

spoke design also matters for caliper clearance. i'm not sure what avant garde's look like on the backside, but i would guess that if it's a vendor on this site, they've probably dealt with this issue before. if you're set on getting those wheels, you could ask for a measurement for how much clearance it needs and use a spacer to clear the caliper; i'm sure it's not much.

They should fit XI cars, Easiest thing to measure is the inner barrel diameter. Go from the center of your hub to the rim you should be in the 8.58inch range. the rims offset shouldnt affect the caliper clearance its a more aggressive offset meaning the rim is moving towards the fender and away from the strut and caliper. Um it would be like adding a 10mm spacer to your stock wheels..
Go with the 18x9 all the way around if you can then stagger the tires like 265/35 front and 275/35 rears
FYI 535i have a 348mm rotor (13.8 inches)

unless you are buying tiny wheels or monster brakes, inner barrel clearance almost never comes into play. however, it is very possible to buy a wheel that is -60 offset, but doesn't clear your brakes because of the face/spoke design. my only thought as to why those wheels don't fit would be because of the spokes/wheel pad. since it is a concave wheel, the face stays concave to achieve the "look" and the wheel pad size changes to gain a higher offset; e.g. a +20 and +35 have the same wheel face but the +35 has a 15mm smaller wheel pad. this means that the inside surface of the spokes are now closer to the caliper and thus doesn't fit. i don't know if this is the case or not for these wheels, but it is possible. again; ask the vendor why they told you that, they should be able to tell you definitively if they are a site advertiser.
