That porous plate could well be inside the pipe lining the walls like the pipes on the Quad in the post http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...st&p=415389

Having looked at the picture of the Quad pipe and then looked at the tail pipe above, I now see what you mean about it maybe being porous pipe lining.

OK, two tears in a bucket, I'll just order one and take a closer look!

Thanks for the feedback guys

EDIT: Just realised that if that other part is for the internal fitting of the tail-pipe onto the exiting pipe, then its going to be far to small and the wrong shape. The fitment size they mention is 6.2 cm, so it looks like another deadend.

The search continues...

We got to get our heads together on this one to finish off our 520d's

Not got round to the polishing of the basic exhaust but surely there is enough call for a decent 520d oem or aftermarket trim??

perhaps we could all petition/bombard one of the manufacturers to make us one (sure they are all probably made in china)

On second thoughts and having got the saleman to try the new 320d coupe chrome trim on my 520d (just slightly too small but the trim design was spot on) I think i might buy the coupe trim from my local dealer, get it drawn at work and get one of my suppliers in china to make them (probably a minimum order of 50 pieces - sure I would sell plenty on flea bay and offer em discounted on here !!??

You can count me in...I'm sure there are plenty UK lurkers here who would like a reversible mod like this for their lease cars.

I received an email from BMW-Chromteile.de late last week informing me that they now have a chrome tailpipe for the pre-LCI / 163ps 520d exhaust It costs approx ?40,- According to them it is a straight bolt-on product and no welding or cutting required
I have ordered one and would expect to take delivery by next weekend (just made payment and waiting for confirmation).
This is the link to the English product description: http://www.bmw-chromteile.de/webshop/catal...65cde6a26aa0d78

Here are some pics (not my car):

Without chrome tailpipe:

With bmw-chromteile chrome tailpipe:

It may just be the chrome tailpipe from the 177ps LCI 520d, however I have been assured by bmw-chromteile that it fits the 163ps versions. Naturally I'll post some feedback / photos as soon as its fitted... and stays fitted!
