My Ride: 520d saloon, manual 6 ratios, olivin metallic, star spoke 122 alloys, delete boot badge, bi-xenon adaptive headlights including washers, graduated tinted windscreen, exterior and interior mirror auto dimming plus electric folding door mirrors, extended light package, dakota beige leather, dark poplar wood, electric seat adjustment including memory function, heated front seats, advanced climate control, velour floor mats, sliding front armrest, lumbar support for front seats.
Default

I found these on ebay yesterday and wondered what they'd look like - never seen them before. Has anyone ever used them or seen them on an E60? I'd be interested to see pictures of them on a car, especially the handle covers - not sure about the door mirror surrounds?

They may be a bit over the top or tacky when fitted but I do like chrome highlights and it may make the flanks of the car a little less bland.

I am not sure you should ruin that nice car with some cheap mods, but if you like them...your choice.

Two chances.

1.They either look very nice
2.Or they completely ruin the look of the car.

I think it more depends on colour of the car.Dark cars go #2 and light ones go #1

Either way i wouldnt put some stupid piece of plastic on my LOVELY door handles

I guess the overall message is give them a miss. I must admit I tend to agree - probably would detract from the clean design of the car lines.

I can understand how you guys from over the pond probably hate chrome as US cars have been notorioulsy overchromed and often tacky with it since the '50s. However, in the UK and Europe chrome has been used to highlight cars very subtley over the years to just the right degree.

More recently since the '80s chrome completely went out of fashion and everything became dressed in black plastic which became very tatty as the car got older requiring constant re-blacking with plastic polish.

Over the last 6 or 7 years chrome seems to have made a comeback in cars of various makes from Europe and Japan. My wife has a Rover 75 which uses it liberally but it suits this car as it has a retro design.

BMW are quite restrained with chrome I guess to emphasise the sporty look so it's just restricted to the window surrounds and grill largely, which many people delete. Mercedes uses more chrome to emphasise luxury and Audi is starting to add more on some models.

As others have said though, each to their own - funny though how people still yearn for shiney chrome exhaust pipes and wheels - perhaps these should be blacked out for the chrome haters...
