:bash: CEL on!! I stopped by a shop and told them to pull their OBD2 out for me. Looks like it's only a thermostat :D

Thermostat 1 11537586885 $109.72
Gasket ring 1 11531440192 $5.97

Not too bad. I can live with it. Parts prolly cost me $80 or so after discount. Hopefully I can get my friend to program my car and switch out the thermostat and ALSO take care of the airbag recall.

Good to hear it's only the thermostat :)

That's what obd2 said. This guys odb2 reader is pretty nice. Its huge and has a 7" lcd screen! Lol. I'll prolly have bmw pull it when I have my boy program the car. Stupid thermostat is setting me back another hundred or two.

I don't get why a bad thermostat will show increased emissions....

When the car starts, the thermostat closes the valve to the coolant so the engine can heat up quicker. A warmed up engine has less emissions.
If the thermostat is stuck in the open position, coolant will flow the second the car is turned on, so it takes a lot longer for the car to warm up. During this extended warm-up time the engine releases more emissions, which gives you the emissions warning.

Well, there is a temp gauge in the OBD II menu.
