Anyone know of (UK) online retailer where I could buy a cargo net for my 5er Touring?

Cheers!

what's the official name for these things? I search for "bmw cargo net" on the net and get very few results.

I assume you are just after a generic cargo net and not a BMW branded one. There are hundreds on ebay, just measure up the size you need.

for example do a search for item number 190153606943, I think this might do the trick.

I got my E60 BMW cargo net from the dealer for about $70.00 U.S. Its listed as one of the accessories that you can buy from the parts department. It fits great and works well. Pull into a showroom and get an accessory catalog.

Good day,

I dont mean to be rude...and I am sure it is lovely...but I would never pay $70 for something which will sit in the boot and I can get on fleabay for under $20 to do the exact same job.
