I'm been thinking of wrapping my car in satin/matte black, or maybe a different color. What do you guys think of the durability of them? How much does a car wrap usually cost, like $2k?

god_003 02-15-2010 02:12 PM

id say go diff and do a satin/matte white

:o

might look cool as shit

or horrible as hell

:l

2k well spent

leggomysakyo 02-15-2010 02:18 PM

IMHO - I think Matte/Satin finishes look best on exotics and race cars. I saw a late model Nissan Maxima with a satin finish, and it looked like primer.. I'm afraid that's what an e60 would look like in a Matte finish....

It might help if you have a really nice/expensive set of wheels(360 forged, DPE, HRE, etc) to finish off the look. Just my 2 cents.
But then again, what do I know! I'm still rollin on Asanti's! (getto fabulous!)

i did see a Matte/Satin White MBZ SL63AMG and it looked crazy!!! I loved it! :notworthy:

TakmaN 02-15-2010 02:23 PM

I would spend the money elsewhere and yea it would probably run you around that ballpark. Those satin looks are a PITA to keep like that. It's like suede except you can't just rub it and make it look fine when something scuffs it.

I saw a matte black vette (not sure if it was painted or vinyl wrapped) but it looked horrid. It looked like it was just sanded and primered and waiting for a paintjob. Vinyled roof on the other hand = :)

i'm usually not big on wraps, but this car is sick.

you need to have a fairly heavily modded car for it to look right and most of the time the mods need to reflect a mean theme the car is going for

Petrol wheels and no drop doesnt really carry that I think

what he said.

Id get the wheels and drop it before you do that. Get the black 166's in the classifieds, drop it, then go matte black. it would look just like that m5.

If you can find a matte wrap for your 5 series for $2K, jump on it. Just hope they use quality materials!

We can do it... but matte wraps are typically quite a bit more work then a regular printed/designed wrap. I have turned away quite a few.

dowe 02-15-2010 05:18 PM

praise and awg are right on... must do the drop/wheels first.

tex_phil 02-15-2010 05:18 PM

Yeah it would probably be a PITA, if I got dented by someone I'm not sure how you could repair the wrap, or if someone cut the wrap in hate. :/

u do realize the car has panels right?

:l

its not one single piece they apply

they cut it or u hit something

they remove the vinyl from the area and replace it

simple shit

Yeah I realize that, I probably won't do it, it was just a crazy thought, maybe if I had a m5.

Phil there are multiple places in lincoln that do these. My boyfriends brother has his work truck wrapped and the wrap is guaranteed for 4 years. If ANYTHING happens to it they replace it. Like the god guy said if you get rear ended and the bumper is messed up it is easy to replace. they store the template on the computer and reprint the bumper piece. Would take them less than 20 mins to replace a bumper or body panel. I got the pictures for you to check out:

first one here is the boss mans wifes car:

this one is my boyfriends brothers truck:

If i were you phil i would do the wrap for sure. It would be amazing with wheels, a drop, and shadowline first. FYI that place in Lincoln charges around 4-5k for a full wrap. They wanted 280ish to do my roof in gloss black

545iPoeser 02-16-2010 07:19 AM

i want to wrap my M in a matte black finish, i think it looks sick! but it is costly

nomis_nehc 02-16-2010 11:14 AM

DAMN, that is a hot E92.

A two thousand car vinyl wrap could be a good enough deal for my car. It would be a good maintenance for my old car.

BET530 07-07-2010 10:17 AM

I have a 525 in matt black running around my neighborhood, everything is stock. my opinion, the car looks cheap, looks like primer! if you going to go with a matt finish, you need a body kit, nice wheels and a drop and a matt finish would compliment the overall look!

I think I wish my E60 was white. The grass is always greener.

John@Motorcepts 07-07-2010 07:58 PM

matte grey!!! It's hot.

bomah 07-10-2010 04:40 AM

was going to go for the matt black look until i saw this, wow :hyper:

D33ZNUT5 07-11-2010 05:30 AM

It would be funny to wrap it so it looks like one of the pre production test cars

signdepotatx 10-22-2014 12:34 PM

That matte black finish looks really good, the vinyl does require a bit of maintenance though, whoever did your wrap likely wrapped the car in cut sections so if you have chips or scratches you don't have to replace the entire wrap.
