Hi guys,

So I have a one-car garage and the M Roadster is the garage queen. Should I consider a car cover for the 550i? I'm afraid the car cover may cause swirls, especially on jet black. Any suggestions? :)

As opposed to the sun fading, acid rain and bird dropping damage that you'll get otherwise?? j/k Actually the latest covers are pretty good that way.

I've lived in situations where I couldn't garage my car and covered it - it worked fairly well; the finish stayed clean and in great shape, even through weather. That car was dark green, and I see what you're concerned about with Black, but think of it this way - you're likely to have all of the above problems if you don't cover it, so while a garage is better, a cover will certainly help.

What I'd recommend is to make sure you keep it waxed up really good - that will help protect it from all kinds of problems.

I used to use the OEM car cover on my sapphire black 545 when I had bought the M5 and that car was sitting in the street. It's soft on the inside and will not scratch your paint but of course, your car should be clean from debris cause if it's dirty, taking on and off the cover will drag particles across the paint. The only thing I noticed was it'll leave some moisture/dust marks so you'd just have to wipe or dust the car down after taking off the cover.

I have the oem car cover and it works great, very soft yet water proof and perfectly fitted.

I bought mine through Bavarian Autosport. It was I think the Noah fabric. Griot's Garage also has other stuff that is more expensive and possibly better, I'm not sure.

What I would avoid if its for outside purposes would be any natural fabrics - the technical stuff sheds water & dries much faster.

the only downside is on rainy days that thing gets soaked and is heavy as hell
