Something came up... long story short, my dream [almost completely] came true - my friend is getting rid of his lease on a 2008 535i (with a mighty sweet payment, might I add) and I'm the guy getting it! Oh yes, I am!

Well, before I go too deep into my wet dreams about the 535i Sport, let me state the purpose of this thread. I've never actually seen a thread here that tracks someone's success/failure at sellling a car (did I not look hard enough?), and considering the times we live in, I figured this might be useful information - knowing how "liquid" our cars are in the marketplace.

So far, I've listed the car on this forum and the next step is cars.com

Obviously, I'm in a hurry to sell and I'll take any sound advice. As always, all comments are welcome...

Good luck with the 535. That's a major upgrade.

And good luck with your sale.

My first advice is for you to sell your current car before getting into another one. Autotrader is a good place also.....good luck!

Thanks, I'll give AT a shot! And yes, I'm definitely trying to sell mine BEFORE I take the delivery of the 535

sdg1871, thanks. The only thing I'm a little disappointed about is that the 535 is not a manual transmission and it does not have a Navi. But a friend of mine has a shop and he has what he claims is a BMW navi system, so I'm actually digging through DIYs right now trying to see how hard it is to retrofit an OEM Navi to an e60... but the biggest thing is definitely the automatic - I'm a manual transmission kinda guy...

You don't even own the car yet and you're already listing two major things you're unhappy about. That's not a good sign. Ok you might be able to rectify the navi one, but from what I've read on here, it's not trivial. It's not like swapping out rims or even seats, it's bigger than that.

The worst thing is that you want a manual and you're considering an automatic. I've made that mistake about four times. I made my mind up which transmission I wanted, and ended up accepting the other type. In my case I wanted automatic and accepted manual, but the idea is the same.

Every single trip you make in that car you'll be thinking why didn't I just look around for a manual.

I am listing two things that are less than my perfect 10, but that engine still makes up for it.

As for the transmission choice, I know how it feels - I've done what you've described several times. However, I feel that with the steptronic, I'll still shift when I feel like it, I just won't have the same degree of control. But again, the engine compensates for it. I've driven the car I'm getting and I know that I want it. I am usually VERY slow to make up my mind (just ask Nerwyll LOL), but when I decide, I decide for good - that's just me. I'll be fine with the auto for the remainder of the lease and when its over the F10 will be out and God-willing I'll get it spec'd out with the TT V8 and M-DCT

OK, there'll be no surprises then. Cool

Yep. I mean, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about when it comes to transmission. I honestly love my manual car, but it is time for me to move to the next level. And I feel that this 535i does that for me - even if I'll end up with fewer options, this car has all the important stuff - the iPod/USB jack, the Sat Radio hook-up (crucial for the Nav retrofit - if I decide to do it), it is RWD vs my current AWD Xi, so I have a lot more options as to what rims to get... and it is LCI - not the least of all. Basically, I feel that giving up some options, that I almost never use anyway, for gaining my dream engine and compromising on the transmission is fair in this case. Did I mention its a 535?
