My Ride: 2004 545i Automatic - Premium - 19" M166 - Logic 7 - No Nav
Default

Hi,

My car came oem 225-50-17 all around. I want to install a narrower tire (winter purpose), such as 215-55-16 all around. With my software calculations, the 215-55-17 will be 1.8% larger, wich is 0.4inch larger

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/50-17 4.4in 12.9in 25.9in 81.2in 780 0.0%
215/55-17 4.7in 13.2in 26.3in 82.7in 767 1.8%

Can I go ahead or would this cause major problem with the electronics ?

Thanks

Anyone ?
I just had a set of Nokian Hakkapelitta RSi 215/55 R17 installed and will be mounting in a couple of weeks in preparation for our Canadian winter. I believe these should be fine and will let you know if there are any problems. I do not think 16in wheels/tires will work due to the size of the 545i calipers.

I believe Jeffs on this forum puts 245/40/18 F and 275/40/18 Rear on his stock rims during the winter and he says its really good.
I use 245/40/18 all around on my stock rims with the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 during the winter. They're probably the best performance winter tires out there, and my car drives fine. But either way, the E60s without the 4-wheel drive relativley sucks compared to the other sedans, so I dont really see why you will need to go with narrower and higher profile tires.
I'll suggest sticking with your OEM and I agree with sy545, I dont know if 16" will fit.
