Exclamation A/C Condenser hit by stone

Hi,

I drive a CPO (11/29 ) 2008 528xi.
My AC stopped working and I took over to BMW. They told me that a rock hit the condenser and it is not cover under the warranty. I guess my questions are:
1. Is this a common issue on the e60 series ? Meaning a design flaw ?
2. How much people usually pay to get that fixed ?
3. Is it worth to file a insurance claim ( 500 deductible ) ?
I got a quote from dealer of $1160, a specialized BMW private shop for $963 and regular mechanic $850.
Anybody experience this issue before ?

Thanks

this can happen on any car, and there is no reason the manufacturer should have to cover it.
might be best to just pay out of pocket at local mechanic.

+1, I've never had this issue knock on wood so I can't imagine it being a design flaw. Otherwise, everyone would be having them replaced.

I guess it is just bad luck.
I called BMW and got the part number 6450-9122-825 ( $674 ) ; then I was able to find the same part at Oembimmerparts BMW & Mini Parts for $188. Are they a reputable site ? Anyone had experience with them ? Are the parts new ?

-thx

Another reason why I wear a bra on my 2005 545! Also keeps the bugs from plugging the radiators and coolers and later corroding the fins. But then I average 35000 miles a year of country driving!

Salut, Bob P.

That must of been a huge rock! Was there a big indentation at the leak? Not too common of a problem but can still happen to anyone. I find tons (well - not tons, just a handful) of rocks in between the fins but nothing really large enough to actually damage the tube portions.

As far as the part goes I'm not familiar with that site. I get my OEM parts from here instead:

BMW Parts - BMW Auto Parts - Discount BMW Parts - Bimmer Parts Web

If you're a DIY type of person this can be done. Just be sure to have the AC system evacuated and depressurized. Good luck

edit: I just checked the part # on my site and found 2 condensers. If its a Behr condenser it is OEM, and the part goes for $224.
