Just got the "Service Due Immediately on my car" 0 mls... I was wondering should I go to an independent certified (that all my boys go to) to do the breaks or the dealer? What would you do?

Buy the parts from the dealer (or online, which may save some $) and goto an independent mechanic.

If you are keen to go the aftermarket way, go with Acute Performance (vendor here).

I ended up taking my car to an indy and ended up only paying 80 for labor they did a real good job with it too, the dealer wanted to charge around $700 with parts.

That's a great idea, I'll buy the parts myself and have an indy do it.

Thanks to the both of you.

You'll have to stop taking BREAKS while fitting those BRAKES.

Same same. Dealer quoted me $925 with parts. I ended up buying my brakes and rotors online and having an indy shop install them for $70. I watched him do it and it looks soooo easy. I probably do them myself next time

How much did you spend on parts at the dealer?

$80 for labor and that's for front and rear? real good deal to me! i got quoted $200 for labor, while i provided the parts (all rotors, all pads, and x2 sensors)

What's your thoughts on the BMW OEM pads versus aftermarket Hawk HPS pads?

amazon.com has BMW Genuine Front Brake Pads for E60 5 Series - 525i N52 SEDAN (2004 - 2006), 530i SEDAN (2002 - 2007) at $124.59+shipping

& the BMW Genuine Rear Brake Pads for E60 E61 5 Series - 525i 525xi 530i 530xi at $119.94+shipping

I had R1 Concepts BLANK rotors (E-Line OE Replacement Rotors) with Hawks HPS pads w/ new sensors. After about 20-25k miles, i needed to change out the pads.
