Default Brake squeal

Hi folks
Have any of you suffered brake squeal

when I bought my E61, shortly afterwards I had to change all the pads as the wear indicator activated
I had not experienced any squeal up to this point
I changed them and replaced them with PAGID (I didn’t take note of the previous brand)
since then I have been plagued with serious squeal and over the last year have had them apart 3 times to grease them up, which lasts for a few months
It’s started again and MOT is due so I’m going to change them

what brand do you suggest to avoid squeal

What brands are you all using

Also, I didn’t replace the wear indicators. How many are there. Is it an indicator per corner or just on the diagonal corners

thanks in advance

I had brake hum for awhile and was driving me bonkers. Come to find out, it ended up being the brake wear sensor. I'd go ahead an replace them if I were you. They are located on the left-front and right-rear wheels. If that does not fix it, could be your pads were not properly bedded or you may need new rotors.

There's one indicator for the front and one in rear. Sadly it doesn't matter what you do you will have the squeal if not properly cleaned and greased.

You need a wire brush to clean the brackets. You coat the bracket with grease and the back of the pads. Once done you should be good. No matter what pads you use if you follow that you will have no noise. Ensure the guide pins are cleaned also. some people don't grease (in the manual it states not to) some people do grease (I do with lithium grease).

From the Bentley Manual -- you could have a wear sensor with the old design causing the squeal. Follow the below:

Hi All

I took all your advice and replaced disks and pads all round.
Wasn’t worth the hassle of repeated strip down inspections.
All good now and a pleasure to drive again.
Just hope it lasts and doesn’t start squealing again.

Good diagnostic info JPR10. Cheers

Thanks again
