My brakes sound horrendous when coming to a stop!at first it was a tad bit tolerable, now i cant stand it and it makes my beautiful ride sound un-kept. So Im thinking its time to change the brake pads so I was wondering if anybody has changed their brake pads on their own, and also the price difference of DIY comapred to taking it to the stealership. My factory warranty ran out after 50k miles but I still have the extended warranty and im fairly sure they dont cover brake pad replacement. Any help would be appreciated

If you have a CPO car, but not the extended maintenance warranty then, no, it is not covered and if new rotors are needed the dealer will charge you roughly $1400 for the job. If you just need pads contact member AcutePerformance for some Hawk HPS - I have had them for more than a year and LOVE them, they bite better than OEM, have MUCH less dust, and (if installed and lubed properly) they don't squeak at all. OEM pads squeak all the time, took my car into the dealer several times and always heard it was "normal" because when the brakes get dusty they squeal like a stuck pig. Having pads that are NOT oem reduces the dust and kills that noise. Also, when paired with R1 Concepts rotors and stainless brake lines my brakes now KICK ASS!!!!! Love the performance of my brakes now. Total cost (DIY with help from other forum members) was ~$700 plus a few pizzas.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was hoping this wouldnt become a huge undertaking but its seeming like any and everything dealing with these cars is just that.

LOL, not really, these cars are actually pretty cheap to maintain if you can do some DIY. Pads are pads, and these pads are pretty straight forward to replace, took me about 10-15 mins per wheel. It's when you are forced to go to the dealer or an Indy shop for everything that the maintenance prices get ridiculous. BTW, Hawk pads from Michael are about the same price as OEM pads, just better.

I prefer Brembo brakes on my 5 Series, much better than standard parts you can really feel the difference
