Hi Bmr's

Does anyone out there have a real concern about the use of Brake Dust Shields?
Years ago I heard they cause the brakes to overheat, is that still a problem? I have the stock 5 spoke wheels on my '06 525i...

Thanks for any input!

Regards,

Mark

Even though they claim the shields won't affect braking or warranty, don't believe them.

They are not worth it and can clearly create more problems than they solve...

I don't believe they allow sufficient air circulation, and they look ugly. Get a California mini duster for your wheels.

I suggest trying to avoid them. Any extra heat to your brakes is not what you want. Try waxing your wheels after your next detail. That should help with brake dust quite a bit. Hope this helps.

Waxing your wheels with conventional wax is a waste of time because the high heat will melt the wax after one drive.

I use RejeX on my wheels (and exhaust tips and windshield)--was developed for high temp military applications:

The high heat of the brakes that is subjected to the rims will melt a carnauba away, but a good spray wax or protectant lasts pretty well surprisingly (even on hard braking such as track or heavy street braking). I have tried Rejex and did not like the outcome on some clients cars. Either way, getting the wheels protected by somethign is better then brake shields.
