I have a major brake dust issue. I need to clean my rims after every time I drive my car. It's driving me nuts! Is this normal?(aside from me being so anal about my rims ). Are there some other pads I can be using to prevent all the dust? Thanks!

Unfortunately, BMW brake pads (factory) are notoriously dusty. I just changed mine to Centric posi quiet semi metallic and they're quite a bit better. Much less dust and the dust is lighter in color (not the dark charcoal like the bmw pads). Others use Axxis Deluxe pads which also produce much less dust.

+1 ... though unless you're a very very aggressive driver I'd stay away from any pad that labels them as "ultra-high performance". Those just don't get hot enough to work properly in day to day driving and may be noisier than you like. The Axxis "Deluxe" [formerly PBR) mentioned are well respected as BMW replacements. They are quiet, perform well under "normal" driving, and produce considerably less dust than original equipment pads.

Yes, those pads are effective in lessening the dust.

Has there ever been a comparison test to see if stopping distances are as short with these low dust aftermarket pads as the OEM brake pads. My OEM oads do make the wheels dusty real quick but their stopping power is superb.

I agree ... BMW Pads are very effective in hard braking and do produce lots of brake dust.

It pains me to see a BMW with black wheels (and know it's not powdercoat!).

I find that using a good wax on clean wheels and then washing with car soap weekly is easiest. Detail spray also works but can quickly use up 4 microfiber rags in the process. If I drive hard and the brake dust is especially heavy between washes, a brush + one bucket of soapy water + one bucket of clean water and I can clean them up in less than 10 minutes.

Dave at Zeckhausen racing told me that the Centric posi quiet semi metallic are the equivalent performance wise to the Hawk HPS pads at a better price point.

Thanks, I found the pads online for $61 shipped for the front: http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/6...0A2594400.aspx . Is this a good price? Should I replace the rear as well? What will the dealer charge to put these in? Do I need to go to the dealer for something so simple or can anyone do it? Thanks!

I use the axxis deluxe pads and they are definitely great in terms of reducing brake dust, as for braking power the oem pads are better. But the way I look at it is I don't track/race my car so the little decrease in stopping power is ok for a great reduction in brake dust.
