Default Bought an '06 530i --> Want iPod/iPhone

Hello,

I just joined this forum and look forward to learning & sharing knowledge about the car we love so much. This past weekend I purchased an '06 530i. The car does not have nav or 6 disk changer. I've done some searching around the web to see what my options are for adding an iPod interface. I read something about a dealer installed option that's about $500. Do you know of any aftermarket solutions? I'm a solid DIY'er. I went to auto school years ago. I also own a '99 328i that I've done every repair/upgrade on it (has 225K on it and still going strong).

I love avoiding the Stealer any chance I can.

Do you have an aux input from the factory on the back of the center console? My 07 530 does. I plan on installing a spec dock seen here.

BMWE60V2I

Edit: This is for the aux input route. The above link is to a spec dock for a car with factory ipod integration.

That's very clean! I have to get one of these ports.

I'll check my center console. If I have an aux port am I able to plug in my iPod and view in iDrive?

No. The Aux input is just a mini jack that connects to the iphone/ipod like headphones. The connection (if you have it, I'm not sure about 06) is right underneath the A/C vents on the back of the center console like in the back seat area. With that piece and a factory AUX connection you still have to select the song from the ipod/iphone but it is much more convenient with charging included when you have a dock.

Ohhh okay. My wife has the car and she's checking now.

I saw another model that cost $599 that supposed to allow you to control via iDrive. At that price, I'll just use my iPhone.

Checked my car and I don't have the aux port. I'm going to try this: CT29BM03 BMW 5 7 X3 X5 Z3 Z4 MINI AUX INPUT ADAPTOR 06- | eBay

I'll add aftermarket RCA jacks and then install the 2point5 BMWE60V2AV adaptor. I gotta check my radio to make sure it has the aux connection on the back.

BMW Cover for CD Changer 51167063515

BMW iPod® Interface Adapter-For vehicles produced 09/03 and later. 65110439425

Buy these from any dealer or online. You can install yourself. I bought it online and installed my self. I had to get it coded since I did not have CD changes, for you it should be a simple swap.

I like the idea of using an OEM part, especially for resale value. Having said that, I really like the dock that 2point5 offers. I wonder if I could figure out a way to use an OEM iPod interface w/ that 2point5 dock. Maybe I can buy just the dock from 2point5???
