Gentlemen, Good afternoon.
Another small update from the aftermarket front.
This time regarding my winter tyres setup. After much thought, I have decided to go with a more safety orientated set size of 8.0x17" - 225/50/17.
Was able to find through BORBET rims ( Brooklyn wheels ) an outstanding set of BMW Replica Design 124 - 17" rims, which I paired to set of Continental WinterSports. In my area, winters are not that severe, average temp 2-4 deg C , mostly wet, occasional light snow...so these tyres were appropriate.
I must say the level of quality is rather impressive. Paint finish, detail are really
good. This wheel/tyre is quite light, especially when compared to
my original 123's....I can tell you, I was amazed how heavy the 123 wheels are.
The runflats probably contribute to this fact.
Only a small amount of counterbalance weights were needed to balance out the new 124's.
After install - I was well pleased with the result. First drive impressions?
Very positive. First off, steering wheel seems more subdued, a more gentle connection to the road - not an unconnected feel with road, just gentle. The runflats obviously more harsh, no doubt about it. It's another thing having low
profile tyres, but the runflats are hard as well. Nontheless, I'm not diminishing their
superior safety goal.
The winter setup is as well more quiet, more comfortable. All in all, exactly what I
wanted. Safety for winter driving , comfort , low noise , good looks
All for a very reasonable 1350euros.
Pics included are : The wheels. tyres, wheel well, under the car and final result.
Winters don't have to be dull anymore!!!
PS. Never noticed I had a 12V connection at the rear of my boot!! I'm thinking
BMW cool box??!!
Andy.

Waiting for trunkopener button from Hobi :)
After e-mailing with Andreas yesterday evening I also decided to install my winterset today. Did it myself and all worked out perfect. While the wheels were off I also cleaned my brakes thoroughly so they look new again.
First impressions of the Dunlop wintersports M3 with DSST 225/50/17.
Pro's:
- Much more quiet then my bridgestones, less tirenoise!!!!
- More comfortable although they have the DSST technology. The car feels much less harsh when going over potholes and speedbumps the car drives much, much more comfortable.
- The car feels lighter and therefore quicker then with the 18 inch wheels.
Downside:
- I have a little unbalance in the rearwheels. So will get them balanced asap (I bought them from ebay).
- They look a lot smaller then my 123 wheels so lookwise I prefer my 18 inch wheels much more.
Overal I am very pleased with my set and hope to enjoy them for a lot of kms!
Andreas: I got your DVD today. Will try it in a minute! Thanks man, I owe you one.
