BMW roof bars with Thule bike carriers

I bought the BMW (E60) roof bars but am having difficulty fitting the Thule ProRide 591 bike carriers. The bars seem to 'fat' for the Thule clamp fitment.
The other option was to use the Thule T track fittings. But the BMW roof bar T track groove is too wide for the Thule screw to fit securely.
Anybody have any joy fitting a Thule bike carrier to the BMW roof bars?
Perhaps I shopuld have bought the BMW bike carrier but I was very impressed with my friends Thule 591.
