i just changed my bmw brand oil to mobil 0w-40. the bmw oil had 7k on it.

my engine is much quieter now, not sure if it is b/c the oil is new or b/c its mobil. it used to have a very slight tick when the engine temp was just barely warm (when i reached the highway about 5 mins after i started it, when the engine got warm the tick went away) now when i reach the same point on the road and get out and listen the thing is so quiet, not a single noise to be heard.

This is because the 0w40 is a thicker oil which quiets down the ticking of the hydralic lifters by the heavier weight oil "sticking around" lubricating the parts more--more syrupy per say. Downside is less gas mileage and performance due to overcoming higher friction of the thicker oil
