ok, i want to buy this item but im not sure how it would fit our car? it can be found on bavauto website and is listed as an e60 part. my issue is that the knob has no "tail" to slide into the shifting shaft. if anyone has any info please let me know. thanx.

Andy....How did you put that thing on? Was it difficult I wanted to get a replacement shift knob but i wasn't sure how exactly to put it on. I assume that you have to remove the housing and the boot in the console but not exactly sure how. Know any good DIY on this?

It's easy mate. Shift into N, press shift button and pull up (some force required). That's it.

For real thats it?? Does just the knob come off by doing that or does the rod connected to the knob come with it. Because the one i have been looking at getting had the knob and the rod coming off it.

The rod is connected to the shift knob, so it comes out with the old knob and your new one already has a rod attached.

Watch your teeth, face, roof, mirror and glass when you pull that bad boy out... I know a member who popped their sunroof in this process....

Cant help but laugh...it was funny as hell...

ive removed the shifter before but my issue was that in the pic below the knob is shown without the "tail" (not sure waht to call it) that is attached to the stock shifter. this "tail" inserts into the boot. did yours come with the full unit or did you have to remove that "tail" from the oem unit?
