BMW E70 (X5) LCI headrests into a E60 pre LCI - Completed :)
#13
I have the standard leather electric sport seats which came with my pre LCI E60, now in general they are reasonably comfy, however the headrests seem to be way too far apart from my head to offer any support.
Solution - Do what everyone else has done and just get some comfort seat headrests - Now obviously these just dont crop up that often and I didn't really want to pay BMW £400 ish for a couple of headrests.
After scouring the internet and scrap yards for these headrests I stumbled across a knackered BMW E70 (X5) in a scrapyard which happened to have the LCI headrests, now at the time I was using my wifes car Audi A3, so was uncertain if these would fit into my E60, anyway I bought them for the pricely sum of £20!!!!!!!
Got home and tried them straight away, they fit!! just need to make a few adjustments, my pre lci headrests posts have slots grooved into them where the LCI ones are smooth, they do hold in position when in the seat but do drop after a while. Any ideas anyone?
Anyway onto the pictures.
Since fitting them this morning they are allot more supportive and very comfortable and I cannot beleive my bargain of £20 or about $45 for our American friends for BOTH headrests.

Here is the bavarian recycle yard website located near sacramento. I know this quite a drive from orange county but if you ever up this way the location of this business is worth checking out. I say location of this business because BmrParts is located in an industry center with 5 or 6 BMW parts shops. The website i listed pretty much only has parts for cars 2006 and older so i havent had much luck with them. However there are other bmw part shops across the street that have crap ton of bumpers front and rear, side skirts, headlights and tailights - pre LCI and LCI, Hoods, doors, wheels, so many friggin parts. Only thing is you might want to brush up on your russian. Most of the shop owners are russians with really thick accents so there is defintely a communication barrier. I have my eyes on a set of comfort seats from one of the shops so hopefully it works out. I am shocked that there arent any shops like this in socal..
