My Ride: '06 E60 550i
Default

I had a similar topic in the Bluetooth forum a while ago, but did not get much replies there, so trying my luck here.

I'm planning to do a bluetooth retrofit in my '06 550i (12/2005 build) and I'm trying to figure out what parts do I need (aside from the TCU of course ). I've found a guy parting out a '04 530i and he has all the bluetooth bits and pieces available. I don't even have the wiring for the TCU in my car, gonna check if I have a mic installed next to the center dome light tomorrow (which I doubt), so I'll probably need a lot of stuff. My question is, do I need the phone prep thingie which is in the armrest ? Besides connecting the phone through a cable and probably charging the phone, is it really needed for anything else? Price with the phone prep is almost double.

I'm going to get the TCU + BT antenna + mic + wiring + supports for trunk fitment etc. Anything else I need?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend not to do it. I had the a 2004 530i which had all the hardware and all I had to get done was the Software update.
The quality of the Bluetooth connection is pretty bad, totally wasn't t even worth the reprogramming to have the BT recognized.
