i have just had a nice biometric engine start fitted to my 535d
with the spate of house break-ins where they are steeling the car keys, and if i were to drop/loose my keys near the car, the theif would still not be able to steal my car, he would only get access to it (would need my pinky to start her)
its a very small unit that sits by the i-drive and when you open/get in the car, you need to "scan" your left index finger on the unit, and when approved it starts the car.
there are provisions for 10 different finger prints (i use 4 different ones in case i have oil/dirt/cuts etc) and room for family, there is also a "valet" or mechanic mode where it will operate as normal (once activated by my "master" finger print) but only allows the car to be driven a max of 1 mile.
cost was ?250 fitted.
