My Ride: 2008 528i Titanium Silver built 03/11/2007, delivered 04/25/2007,
HI all:
I'm just wondering, what's the maximum size wheels that can be placed on a normal 5 series (not M5) that will aesthetically and/or functionally enhance the car? I personally think 20" might be overkill but 19" is still possible?
I'm awaiting delivery of my 2008 528i and I think I want bigger wheels than the default 17" when I get a chance to upgrade later on, but I would like to know what others think about that. I realize the 528 isin't as powerful as the other models so I guess I would do it more for the looks. What do you all think? Thanks!

My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
19" might do but the 18" OEM wheels with non RF's tyres are most practical (not too hard).
245/40 F and 275/35 18" tyres will give a nice and balanced adult, but still yet, a sporty look
for your new fine 528i.

I wouldn't go any bigger then 19x8 and 19x9. Not only is it not practical, but expensive.

i have 20s...practical, probably not. i would suggest 19s, a little more practical and definitely aesthetically pleasing.

I've just ordered 19" 172M and I believe they are just right for the car. 18" is also a good choice, both in terms of ride quality and durance.

20" and also with normal E60 but M5 rear and front 21" and this has nothing to do with BS: it wil ruin the ride, the rimz are harmful.
Once you drop the car and/or have nice aerodynamics, spoilers or splitters and bigger wheels on bumps and bad roads, you have to be carefull and not drive like on the N?rburgring. Once a wheel is tested (ANY BRAND) on an M5 or M6 with 20" or 21" then also on normal E60 with and with out M or sport suspension, and overall it passes the tests, the rest against is just BS.
But then why BMW is not offering it in its range? Good point there, let me answer you with a question: why they do not let 3L diesel 530 perform as a 535d, and optimisers can do, why? Because then who would buy bigger engines, that is marketing and then they come with safety policy.
But hey we like here BMW, so let's not blame them. The best is what I did, of course not everybody has chance to do, a test drive with the desired wheel.
I have now 17"s a joke and will get the 20"s I tried out ... comfortable even with drop.
Do as you like and do not want other people to tell you, hey dude you must do this,... etc.
