griotsgarage.com has a battery manager that looks very similar to the bmw one. It''s on sale for $39.99 (battery manager II). I've had the original battery manager on a seldom used convertible for quite a while with no problems. Griot's garage tends to be expensive, but the stuff is very good and has a lifetime warranty as I recall.

Mark
thanks Mark let me check the product

You can get the same trickle chargers from any good automotive store for half the price of BMW, I bought the BMW version and see the others and there is no diff, except brand and price....... save your $$

My SA recommends it if the car is not driven for over a week. If the battery voltage gets low some ghost faults might result needing reset by the dealer.

Guys,

A week???

Don't worry yourself about it.
I work away for over two weeks at a time, so my car is left outside at home in all weathers, all year. It has never yet failed to start - and start quickly. Occasionally, it has been left for around four weeks, and started with no problems.

Also bear in mind that mine is a diesel, which has a hefty battery discharge with the glowplugs before the engine even turns over.

I have been using the Battery Tenders for years. I hard wired them into all three Porsches, the TD, and my boat. The Porsches are notorious for draining batteries down from non use, the 993 and 964 in as little as two weeks and it was my Porsche SA that turned me onto this product. I mounted all of them with simple self tapping screws right next to the battery, and snaked the plug under the wheel wells, with a protector over them when out on the road. I have overhead retracts in the garage to all of the tenders, so unplugging them is easy.
