For me, the "posers" pretty much ruin it for the people who debadge because they feel the car looks cleaner.

Yes, I can tell the real enchilada from the imposter, so when I see someone over here that debadges a 545, I know they're doing it for the "right" reasons. The problem is, you see many more debadged 525/530's and, unfortunately, since most of these people over here are debadging for the "wrong" reasons (posers), I usually assume that all of these people are doing it to try to fool the majority of onlookers. If that helps them to sleep at night, great. (Again, please understand that I'm not accusing anyone from this forum who debadges or being a poser. The ones that generally do these things aren't usually as "involved" as we are.)

That said, I actually have more respect for the people who don't debadge a 525 or 530 since I know they're being honest and aren't trying to present the car as something that it isn't.

That's exactly why I won't take off my 545i badge. It seems like I have the only 545i in the Orlando area (although I know this is not true), but it seems that way. Everytime I see an E60, its a 530. I have yet to see another 545 on the road.

I don't want people thinking I'm a 530 trying to hide. So I leave my 545i badge.

When we had our old E46 M3 we asked BMW in Hong Kong to remove the M3 and stick a 318i badge at the back...they refused to do it , had to go the a local shop and get it done instead. Confused the heck out of people .

The way I see it : all cars are recognizable, right ? Apart from the immediate
give-away of the the design all cars have a badge...BMW the propeller, Merc the
star, Audi the rings...Volvo haven't, they have to write the thing ( ) , anyway> people see that as a first reference, this is the point where the statement
has been already made. The model insignia comes next, for someone who wants to
know the motor variation for whatever reason. To admire the technological jewel
these engines are or to figure out your bank balance - is
beyond us, for us we shouldn't care...

Everyone of us who drives anything from a 520i to 545i ( or soon an M5 ) shares
the dream of the E60...and thats what most other people think about sitting behind one of our cars. And thats nice because they admire something beautiful and
well engineered. I will always fully support badged or debadged owners with
the same respect.

Thanks
PS. Any BMW posers are excused and may now return to the "other" more suitable
forum...
Oops! Well said!
