I'm working on adding some subs to the trunk, but I know it's sealed really well, so I want to open it up the car. I have read about just cutting a hole though the backing plates behind the fold down arm rest, but I want to take more of the backing plate out. I have the bottom portion of the seat out of the car. How in the heck do I remove the backrest portion of the seat from the car? I found some clips on the bottom of the backrest towards the far outside of the car, but even after getting that loose, the seat is definitely still attached by other means. Has anybody else pulled the back seat out? It's 2004 545 without folding seats if that makes any difference. My stereo guy can do it, but I would like to get this part taken care of before dropping it off to him and save myself some money.

To remove the backrest:
1) Go in to the trunk and find two little clips up on the "trunk roof". Put a screwdriver in the hole and push against the spring that can be felt in there. Repeat with the other hole. This will release the upper edge of the backrest.
2) There are two bolts on the center of the lower edge of the backrest on the front side. You can see the location of them in the pic (part 2):

3) Then just lift it up and away.
I hope this helps.

hey, you guys are awesome! i just performed this last night as i swapped out my non-folding rear seat for a folding seat w/ the ski packaged. it was a son of a bitch getting the folding/ski package seat out of its original car...but it all worked out in the end. i now have free flow air for my sound system that was installed in the trunk. no rattle, just clean clear low end frequency bass...i love it!
thanks again!

no cutting necessary...just a ton of screws here and there for the folding seats. also, there is a spool/hock that connects in the middle of the fold down seats that has to be removed...but its held into place/the frame by four screws as well...again, dont cut anything...i just had to unscrew a lot of stuff for the folding seats. i hope that helps...
