My Ride: 2004 545i 6spd, blk on blk, HRE 540R 20x9 in front and 20x10 in rear with Pirelli PZero Neros 245/25/20 front and 295/25/20 rear. H&R springs, and Eisenmann quad exhaust, V! radar detector, black grille, limo tint all around.

I'm thinking of my next mod and wanted to get some input as to which short shift kit would be better suited for the E60, UUC or B&M? Anyone have either one of the short shift kits installed? What are the pros & cons of each kit? Thanks!

I talked to the guys at Avus Autosport and they told me that B&M recently came out with a new SSK for the E60 545i. I was quoted $400 for the kit and install. So I just wanted to do a little research to see what other kits out there are good and what the price differences are...

wow....400 bucks is not cheap for an SSK. Thanks for the info....now I have to choose between UUC and B&M. The UUC Evo3 shifter I think is $360-70 with shipping not much of a price difference...

Following taken from the UUC website:

B&M recently posted a significantly inaccurate and misleading comparison of their new shifter product in comparison to our UUC product.

Note that many B&M shifters are a solid-metal design that will definitely transmit substantial vibration and noise into the cabin.

Central pivot cup does not securely attach to original carrier, it relies on the friction of two rubber O-rings and a side-sheared clip to hold in place. That means that it is possible to pull the assembly out while driving.

Central pivot components are not self-adjusting and loosen due to use, resulting in a buzzing and clicking.

Plastic lower pivot bushings will wear and loosen, worse than original BMW bushings. Material selection for this high-load part is inappropriate for the forces of the BMW selector rod.

Independent examination of B&M - click here.

I don't know if this is true or just another marketing ploy....
Choi check out the UUC website for more info...

I'm confused and cannot reach a decision yet....

Try Rogue Engineering www.rogueengineering.com. I have had one of their SSK's on my e39 540 for 3 years and it has been great. No rattles and crisp shifts. I already have one of their newly introduced SSK's in my workshop waiting for my mid-Feb. delivery 550.

What do you not like about the autosolution SSK. I emailed them for a quote just the other day.

Not sure if it's the same kit, but this guys speaks pretty highly of them. http://m3.madrussian.net/review_as_ssk.shtml He also reviewed the rogue and UUC SSKs.

According to Autosolutions....my SSk was the first one made. The review was for the M3 and not for the 545i. First, it took 3 months before it came even though Autosolutions promised a couple of weeks. I don't mind the waiting time because hey...it's the first one made for my car. Anyways, the shifter was installed and I did not notice much difference in shifter throws. After a couple weeks, the shifter would grind and pop out if I place it in 5th gear and reverse. To reverse the car, I actually have to push the shifter up while in reverse or the whole thing will pop back into neutral. I have to give Autosolutions credit for their good customer service. I went back to my mechanic who installed the shifter and they tried to fix my problem at no charge not once but twice at no charge. Now...the shifter throws feels as long as stock with extra notchiness I don't need and occasional grinding at 5th gear. I spoke to my mechanic and said he could call them to make me a new one but I am tired of playing this game and based on the positive response from this board regarding the UUC I would probably think of buying one. However, Choi and Biff mentioned B&M and Rogue as alternatives and I have yet to make up my mind over which model to buy.

Well...its sad that my experience with Autosolutions have not been positive. My mechanic told me that the man who made my shifter is a nice guy to deal with. MAYBE he made improvements on the shifters, I don't know....but I don't think I would want to bet on that...

A buddy of mine had tried the UUC SSK as well as the Rogue Engineering SSK & he said he preferred the Rogue Engineering kit better. I also looked on their website and it's also cheaper... the rogue engineering kit is $265 and the UUC kit is around $360.

That's a pretty good price on the rogue. Do you have an idea how much it would cost to install?
