What I would like to know is, does anyone make an uprated air filter system for a 530D or is the K&N Panel filter the only option, and if this is the only option, does anyone have it fitted and does it make any difference.

GAV530D, the 530D does not use a panel filter.
It's a strange canister shape filter covered in a type of mesh that's very difficult to get to.
I doubt if any of the aftermarket filter manufacturers are going to hurry to make one for the 530D.

I have done some research and must take back what I said.
K&N do have one listed for the 2004 530D it's the E-2657 which looks roughly the correct shape but it says its for an E39 which cant be correct as there are no 2004 E39!!
BMC have the 264/16 which seems to be the same size for both E39 and E60.

I ordered it last wk and it should arrive tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated and post some pix when it's installed.

I heard it's very easy to install yourself.. but i'm still asking my bodyshop technician to do it for me..
