So I bought the cable for $40. Called the dealer this morning and they want $600 just to program the car, that's not even for the install of the cable. This sound ludicrous to me. I've seen the PDF and it says 1 hour programming for interface.
How can a dealer get away with so blatently inflating the price? Do I have any other options or am I pretty much screwed since the closest other dealer is 10 hours away?

My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Really? I checked last year (haven't done it yet) but the dealer near me quoted me $125 for the cable and $125 for the install, plus taxes and such it was like $265 done and out the door. Might have to recheck that though now. Check and make sure he meant the AUX install and not the iPod adapter install, they are 2 different things and the iPod adapter install is much more expensive (I was quoted $750 for that one)

I just had mine done a few weeks ago. I bought and installed the cable myself and had the Dealer do the programming. They charged me $194 which was equal to 1.5hrs of labor. They had problems getting my car to accept the program so it was actually hooked up for 5 hours.

So I emailed my service adviser the AUX install PDF and he said the hour of labor quoted is just for the install of the cable, then 4 hours to program it.
I swear this dealership is going to make me switch brands over a freaking radio part. Such nickle and dimers. I've requested that a manager look into this and see if they can do the install at a reduced rate. If no love there I will call BMW NA and probably get told that dealers can cahnrge whatever the f they want and I am screwed since this is the only one within a 10 hour drive

I don't want IPOD I want aux so I can use whatever device as well as internet radio over 3g. Dealer will still charge me an arm and a leg to program since I don't have nav or mp3 enabled on the cd player. Also no cd changer installed.

Even though it took my dealer nearly 5 hours to reprogram my car, they said they could legally only charge me for 1.5 hours. I don't know why but it is probably because the reprogramming calls for only 1 hour and that's what they quoted me.
