Anyone using a Dash mirror cam?
Since the E60 has no easy backup cam solution, I’m thinking about getting a dash cam mirror such as the Karsuite M9 (), etc.
If yes, what model? Looking for one that will cover my mirror symmetrically and still have cam exposed for recording.
Also, would LOVE to have one that I could add a front bumper cam for a total of three cams (dash, front, backup)
It’s got to look good and not like some back alley put together cluster-f*ck! Lol
That is the challenge.
Thanks,
/ Dag /

I wouldn’t think so. The dash cam mirror mounts on the very front face of the OEM mirror, and is roughly the exact same size up and down as the OEM mirror. I’m pretty sure that would leave the bottom buttons still exposed for use. *I use mine as well... just one out of three but I sure do like having it there!

I've seen a friend of a friend who had something like that wired up. It is simple 12V wiring and nothing special, it's kind of like a large broadway mirror overlay (I used to use it on all my cars since it could show so much almost even a blind spot. The one thing to note is that most cameras are not meant to be powered on continuously and it does get warm. I can only imagine when it gets extremely hot how unhappy electronics are. Sure enough the friend of a friend had the camera fry out after 8 months or so. He was having it continually on so he could see all the cameras going which was a little too distracting for me. Obviously you'll also lose the auto dim mirror which I take for granted now.

I'm surprised they wouldn't be able to handle the heat considering how many dash cameras are currently on the market... I got dash cams for both my BMW's last year and they're going fine. For power I tapped into the wires up by the sun roof that power the Homelink controller since it's switched 12v.

I think like everything else, you can get good stuff or bad stuff, you can also get a good specimen of otherwise crappy stuff or a lemon of normally good stuff. For example, I had a KRACO radio from 1977 that I moved from junker to junker up until it sold with a junker 10 years ago (lasted 30+ years),
In reverse, I bought a really expensive DENON receiver for my home and had to send it in almost immediately for repairs under warranty.
I’ll have to take my chances; relying on reviews and other info... and we’re only talking $60-$100 or so.

The dashcam portion is meant to run all the time, what I was referring to was the backup camera (parking) and the front camera (if you put one on the license plate). For example when I was installing my backup camera on my car I left it powered on while I was trying to figure out how to use the rear backup light as a trigger and just for having it constantly on for 20 or 30 minutes it was really toasty warm... so imagine it that warm all the time, and on super hot days. Something's gotta give. Vs. the actual dashcam is stone cold.. certainly a different type of camera is built in there.
