So it's now clear I need my fenders rolled. I did some searching and there's a place I can rent the rolling tool and heat gun (to keep the paint from chipping) for $50. Am I crazy to do this my self? Or should I seek out a professional and pay up? Any experiences would be helpful.

I have rolled the fenders on other cars before (Volvo C70). It takes a fine touch not to crack the paint, or to burn the clear coat with the heat gun. Even though it came out flawless, I would probably never do it again to one of my cars. Just too much for the old nerves

just pay someone to do it, shouldn't cost that much
would you rather DIY and if you mess up what happens???
it cost less than 100 to roll fenders rather than spending more money
if you do damage your car after DIY!!

hahahaha....i must be the only crazy sonofabitch left around here, i say GO FOR IT!

i rolled my own finders when i put my 20's on my car. matter of fact, all i used was a heavy rubber mallet, a heavy-duty heat gun, a lot of patience and some built-up anger to pound down the inner fender. i also carefully heated the inner wheel well (plastic/rubber) and molded it back a bit. (sidenote: im really handy with a heat gun and used to work construction so harming the paint wasnt a factor for me but may be for others)

im a DIY guy for everything i can possibly do, not for the $$ but because i love working on my car. if youre scared you'll damage something, i say pay someone. but if youre confident and handy around the garage, its a fun afternoon project to be had.

You can also use the baseball bat method. Plenty of videos on youtube. I know a guy who used to roll the fenders on Volkswagons using the bat method.

I tried this on a Mercedes I had a few years back and absolutely botched the job. Rolling fenders is no longer in my spoken vocabulary.

I agree with Umichchris, if your not nervous and enjoy working on your car go for it but if you dick it up be prepared to dish out more for repairs than what it would have cost for a pro to do it. Personally i would try it. I used to work on fighters so i get pleasure out of this sort of stuff.

Meh, I am paying someone to do mine. It makes no sense to me to save some coin if my inexperience might cause just a bit of imperfection. I could kick my own ass if I damage the paint or crack it because I am a newbie -- just to save $100.
