I think some people in Europe used 19's for winter.

Aznafin I think does. I dont exactly remember.

But the smaller the wheel, the better the winter performance. I think Max is 18's for winter.
I answer on behalf of my mate Anzafin... He is using 17" OEMs with 225/50/17 Finnish manufacturer NOKIAN Hakkapeliitta 5 studded tires.
This because mid- and northern Finland has from November to March snow surface roads and there are sometimes "icecurbs" and road conditions vary a lot.
There the risk of damaging your 19"s is very high. I would never use anything thinner than 50-series in Finland during the winter. 225/50 is also better for the grip when the studs have more pressure to the ice with narrower tire. Even more comfortable/ softer would be 16"...

But like guys from mid Europe already said they are using 19" there.

I have the stock staggered 18" wheels. I run four 245/40/18 Dunlop sport 3D's. I am totally happy with this setup. I go skiing in NH and VT. No problems. Believe it or not, they're actually quieter than the stock run-flats.

I swap my 19" summer wheels and tires for the exact same 18" winter setup. Works great.
