I have a customer from Killeen, TX.
He actually drove all the way from TX to CA for the installation
His ride is not 5 series but M3, you can still check out how it works,

The real price to add the AUX retrofit is the actual amount that your dealer/ installer charges you. Who really sets the price... a member of forum or your service advisor? What they should say is to shop around for the best price in your area, and that some members have had it done for "this price". Some E60 members have good connections at the dealer and some do not. Maybe they golf with their service advisor, who knows?

My Ride: 04 545i sport, stick, L7, sat, nav. Charcoal/ runflat/ cdv delete.
Suede headliner/ trunk, 3 way front speakers, four 8" subs in rear shelf, ACM, iPod dock in ash tray using gateway 500 with MP3 text and video on screen, MRTM aluminum pedals/ door pins, 10 farad cap, sound processor, line conditioner, 2 amps ( 4x100 and 2x200)
You should also check with an independent shop. They don't have to reprogram/upgrade the whole car like the dealership they just activate the Aux function. I had a guy here in Houston quote me $100 for the programming fee. The Aux input install doesn't look too complicated at all.

I do my own programming, but have seen both low and high prices charged by the dealers for it. In your case, an indi gave you a very reasonable quote.
